Uwe Oldenburg’s open series of cartographic drawings with the title “KERN” began in 1990. Made with pencil, pigment pen, coloured pencils and typewriting on layered and folded transparent sheets and repeatedly taken up after interruptions, they bring together dispersed notations won in a state of the self vacillating between alert consciousness and abandon, describing journeys to the widths and depths of experience and, in doing so, abolishing the sharp contrasts between unsupported lines and machine writing in a continuum of layers.

The graphic work of Sabine Richter concentrates on a combination of different etching techniques that open up

an aesthetic scope of action between control and intuition in the design of format-filling textures, giving rise to different levels of perception, subjective and objective distances and cognitive effects between figuration and abstraction. What seems to be important to the artist when approaching the flatness of her sheets that appear uniform and almost opaque from a distance are the possibilities to change her opinion time and again, to be able to immerse and to take her own paths of perception between the layers of blind etched and dry-point etched working traces. At the same time, she visibly reflects upon the point as a basic design element of her increasingly subtle gradations that test an understanding of texture in the sense of a biological skin surface.
