» deutsche version The "Wolfszeichnungen" by Julia Schmid, with the wiry stockiness of their surface-filling, gestural texture, stand in a delightful contrast to this extreme delicacy: In the juxtaposition of musealisation and release, which she demonstrates using the presence of the species of the wolf that has historically always defined the fringes of culture, an aesthetic scope emerges that allows object and ground, figure and pattern to overlap and proliferate. The recognisability of the wolves’ outlines is made to a new object of negotiation in each sheet, the artist’s handwriting ventures to the edge of the formal reintroduction zone of figuration and thus attains a subjective notation in the flatness that even from a distance possesses a high degree of recognisability.
