The thematic focus of the Canadian artist Susan Turcot, whom I have been representing since 2004, is on problems of the worldwide exploitation of resources. Susan Turcot predominantly works in the medium of drawing:
"Drawing offers the possibility to process experiences directly through the body and to access less conscious regions of the “self”. In the process of drawing, the form invents itself“the pencil as a simple, inconspicuous tool that can press into the paper like an etching needle." *

This exhibition deals with the winning of oil sand in Alberta, Canada, one of the world’s largest areas of mining raw material about the size of Great Britain.

The winning of the black sand is similar to open-pit coal mining and very energy-intensive. Canada therefore counts as one of biggest emitters of greenhouse gases. During the course of her 10-day stay in Alberta, Canada, Susan Turcot personally gained an impression of the situation on site and dealt with the living conditions of the oil workers:
"I did portraits of 24 workers. The closeness arising while drawing made it possible for the workers to tell me their life stories. The encounters took place in the entrance hall of Suncore's Borealis Camp.
