Parallel to the exhibition, two new works “Aus dem Labor für unausweichliche Interaktionen (From the laboratory for unavoidable interactions)” are on view, which he developed with the aid of gelatine creatures enriched with growth hormones, plants, jellyfish, electrons, organic semiconductors, and defective recording devices. A form that became an image through these processes is turned into an object in a further transformation process, which is in turn part of the installation.

“Wolfgang Mally is concerned with entering into a dialogue with nature, with learning in what kind of state and relationship we humans currently stand to it, and which realities we can create out of this web of interdependencies. For Mally, the relationship of man to his existence and the images that he has made and continues to make of his world and its basic materials has always been something very dynamic ... He deals with works that question existence.

That which could be existence and reality is today tested and questioned in his open laboratory. What appears to be digital is analogue, what seems to be computed has a phenomenological constitution. When navigating in these worlds, he is assisted most of all by beings or devices that have other sensoria at their disposal: plants, bees, sonar scanners, lizards, mobile phones, dinoflagellates. *2

On the occasion of this show, a publication has been produced that provides an overview of his work until now.
