In the cabinet room of the gallery, I will for the first time exhibit series of drawings from various work cycles of the young Polish artist Mariusz Tarkawian (*1983).
In his drawing project “Looking for Art”, which he has been continuously pursuing since 11/14/2006 (9 pm) and executing in always the same format (10 x 15 cm), he responds to positions of contemporary art. For this show, he has concentrated on Polish and German artists, mingling established positions with unknown artists. His idea is to act as an ambassador of art and lend a visible position to what has not yet been discovered, as well.

In the new series “A tribute to”, which will be on view for the first time in the exhibition, he takes an associative approach, assigning one attribute each to representatives from art, culture and politics, usually in an ironic and caricature-like fashion. In the equally new series, “My secret drawings”, he concentrates in an intuitive and associative manner on the philosophical and historical foundations of making art.
For the artist, drawing is not only a technique that can be easily handled and in which he can reveal his truly astounding talent – it is also an appropriating and communicative activity.
