» deutsche version The most obvious similarity between the works of the artists in this double feature exhibition is their reference to the photographic dispositive of world acquisition by painterly means – even if that happens with strongly divergent artistic means and procedures. While Stefan Ettlinger creates his composite paintings als painterly collage-style superimpositions of heterogeneous spaces and thus visualizes surprising and paradoxical aesthetic kinships, Jina Park presents clear, unified image spaces seem according to the rules of artificial lighting pertinent to photography, without ever completely subscribing to a “photographic” realism. It is not least Park’s extremely thoughtful choice of images that allows her to isolate mood-related painterly aspects in concrete situations in her surroundings and her social ambient – there is an ephemeral streak beyond formalistic staging going through all of her paintings who approach seemingly banal everyday situations just far enough to be able to maintain a balance between specific and symbolical meaning. Difference between addressed and used media is created through the visualization of effects and glitches in both. Ettlinger’s diverse “extra-painterly” activities surface in the works for this exhibition – the result of an encounter in Korea – in a thematically oriented way: The combinatory structure of his floating image world includes stagings of “honest” authenticity that can be witnessed in rock concerts, stage props and attitudes, which appear here as the transparent and myth-devoided vocabulary of a Western-coded “rockism”
