My third exhibition with the Seoul-based artist Jewyo Rhii deals with examining the basic living conditions in a world characterised by blind progress. In her work, she searches for forms that convey a new perspective by focusing on subjective realities and her own experiences gained on numerous trips in Asia, the United States and Europe.
After the groups of works, “Han River”, “Airport Romance” and “Arrival” (the latter recently presented at the Doosan Gallery in New York), she now continues posing her subjective questions in the group of works titled “Lodged”.

My third exhibition with the Seoul-based artist Jewyo Rhii deals with examining the basic living conditions in a world characterised by blind progress. In her work, she searches for forms that convey a new perspective by focusing on subjective realities and her own experiences gained on numerous trips in Asia, the United States and Europe.
After the groups of works, “Han River”, “Airport Romance” and “Arrival” (the latter recently presented at the Doosan Gallery in New York), she now continues posing her subjective questions in the group of works titled “Lodged”.
By employing simple materials, she seeks to lend a shape to themes such as uncertainty, insecurity and transience. In this exhibition, she transformed the floor of the space to an uncertain itinerary. The furniture-like objects along the way are fragile, assembled from found materials and with limited functionality.
Her drawings on the wall of the same space raise questions related to the life span at one’s disposal. Here, too, she employs unusual materials such as plastic, wallpaper and metal fabric. Ever since she started using colour ink instead of markers in her pictures, it seems as if she wants to reinvent drawing. Delicate colour lines now form the background of her messages.
